根英文读后感篇1

i have heard of the famous novel the great gatsby for many years. however, until recently have i got the time and mood to read it. as soon as i finish reading, i find my previous unwarranted assumption of it totally wrong.

this is a story about gatsby and his pursuit for the squo;american dreamssquo;。 during the world war one, the poor soldier gatsby fell in love with an upper class girl named daisy. but due to the wide gap between them, daisy decided to marry tom, a man of her class, instead of gatsby. broken-hearted gatsby then held the conviction that money was of the greatest importance. he strongly believed in the squo;american dreamssquo;, which as we all know, advocates that one can achieve whatever he or she likes through continuous efforts. he strived for five years to become a millionaire and bought a villa near daisysquo;s to attract her. he was too addicted to his fantasy to realize that daisy was no longer the lovely girl she used to be. eventually, he was killed because of her crime.

after reading it, something reverberates in my heart. i cansquo;t help thinking of the theme fitzgerald trying to convey. one thing may be the lonely void of peoplesquo;s spiritual world. i am deeply impressed by chapter 3, where a vivid description of a party is given. there were beautiful girls, drunk men, and boisterous crowds there, but none of them perceived the pointless of their lives and the barren of their minds. to see this phenomenon deeper, there were two circumstances underlying it. the first is the lack of dreams. some people, especially the people of the upper class, lived an aimless life. they wasted their time and money and took an indifferent attitude towards life.

they chased for temporary ecstasy but lost their identity in eternity, namely daisy and tom. the second is the misleading of dreams. some others like gatsby, bravely pursued their dreams, yet going to a diverged way unconsciously. they might mix up the concept of a richer life and a happier life, viewing a higher social state and a peaceful fulfilled life as equality. unfortunately, when they were busy chasing their dreams, everything changed with time. when they were anxious about the to-gets, they ignored what they had already had and lost the alert to the constant changes. the excellent use of symbolization illustrates this idea perfectly. the imagery of squo;green lightsquo; is the most important symble which occurred three times in the novel. the green-lightsquo;s obscure in the mist indicates the dim of gatsbysquo;s dreams.

as far as i am concerned, this story can serve as a reminder for us. to live a meaningful life, we should carefully choose some dreams to pursue. and in the process of fulfilling our dreams, we should always be concious about what we really desire. anyhow, only by pursuing the proper dreams can we finally get to the deep springs of happiness.

after all this term’s learning on english literature , wuthering height may be the most impressive novel to me . so i will discuss something special in this book , the gothic setting.

what is gothic setting ?

gothic setting is one of the fiction genres which first begin at the middle of 19 century in england . sa一vage , mystery , terror , backward , dark , family curse , supernatural and suspense are the signal features of this kind of fiction genre . it mainly talks something about the dark side of society such as family hatred and succession race . the story in this style usually happens in remote place that far away from city .

what do we know about gothic setting in wuthering heights ?

in fact , what impresses me most in this novel is the description of the environment . it is full of gothic setting . we can find that there is no sunshine in wuthering heights all the year around , the haze and atmosphere there make people feel mystery and depressive . the weather is always changing according to the plot . when there is something badly happen , the environment will be influenced . for example, rain comes at once after catherine’s betray . when it comes to catherine’s death , it changes quickly and suddenly to hea一vy rain and strong wind . all in all , i think all this gothic setting is to show the feeling of writer .

the gothic setting in the book not only shows us the mystery of the environment , but also tells us the society stage and the different life style between different classes in that period . to catherine , heathcriff who belongs to the lower class represents spiritual love while linton in the upper class represents material . she is in a dilemma to make a decision . on one hand , all of us know catherine loves heathcriff deeply . on the other hand , linton can give her the life she expects , a rich and comfortable life and be respected by people . material wins in the end .

what do we learn from this novel ?

true love or material , this is a question . in the novel , catherine sacrifice her love to pursue a comfortable live . actually material is usually the first choice i think when most of the women come to this decision . this was one of the hotest topic at 2010 after a women said on tv she would rather to cry in a bmw than to laugh on a bicycle . what she said liked a big stone thrown into a peaceful lake . can money really replace love ? a lot of people argue on this question whether it is worthy of sacrificing on the internet .

as far as i’am concerned , nothing can take the place of our love . though material is necessary , too much money can not make people happier . it is ordinary for us to persue a better life . but do we really ha一ve to sacrifice our love ? why can’t we make our life comfortable through our hands or with our lover . maybe we will come to some trouble . but all these obstacles are just to make us stronger . though the process is difficult , it maybe the most precious memory and our treasures after overcoming all this difficulties .

根英文读后感篇4

as far as we can see, it is trust that helps us all live together without precaution。 sometimes trust can even lead us to miracles, which we often expect to e about, so why not trust? trust yourself, trust others, and yousquo;ll salute miracles every single day。

in the novel, though the young oliver again and again fell for conspiracies of those hideous thieves, who tried to torture oliversquo;s body and poisoned oliversquo;s heart intensely, he always lived on and tried hard to seek for his own life。 then i realized what supported him all through were actually beliefs。 in most cases, what you believe is what yousquo;ll bee。 believe that you are unlimited, that you can do anything you mit to doing, and when you do, your acplishments will know no bounds。 you control your beliefs and that is how you ultimately control your life。 itsquo;s all dictated by your attitude。

in the final analysis, love and care contain numerous forms, there are love of forgiveness, love of trust, etc。 but they all e from your beliefs in life。 when someone tells you hesquo;s deceived you, forgive him anyway, when someone tells you what hesquo;s done, trust him anyway, and when you face adversities while chasing your dreams, think about your beliefs, then what hinders you will bee a piece of cake in no time。

so find out olivers in your life and do as mr。 brownlow and mrs。 maylie do: love them and care them, which cost nothing but save much。 they enrich those who receive, without impoverishing those who give。 they can be certain smallest words or actions, but the memory of them sometimes last forever。

charles dickens said:love makes the world go around。 these immortal words have inspired and will keep on inspiring us to chant the melody of love and to say the prayer of care forevermore。 let us, therefore, enjoy life and treat other people lovingly。 these principles are the roots and foundations of beliefs supporting this article and our mission together。

根英文读后感篇5

the main character of the novel crime and punishment by feodor dostoevsky, raskolnikov, is in reality two totally contradicting personalities. one part of him is the the intellectual. he is cold, unfeeling and inhumane. he exibits tremendous self-will. it is this side that enables him to commit the most terrible crime imaginable - taking another human life. the other part of his personality is warm

and compassionate. this is the side of him that does charitable acts and fights out against the evil in his society.

the confusion in raskolnikov"s soul is best seen when he tries to help a girl in the street who has been raped and left to the whims of anyone who finds her. raskolnikov tries to protect her from the evil of the street, then stops himself when he is revulsed by the wickedness of his society. why did i take it upon myself to interfere? was it for me to try to help? let them eat one another alive - what is it to me? at one time raskolnikov is both caring and concerned and yet he is able to push aside the whole affair by being totally indifferent. the goal of the novel is to make raskolnikov into one character. sonya helps bring raskolnikov back into his emotional, humane side.

through her suffering, she shows him that it is important to have a love for all humanity and that no person should ever be able to exist like a parasite off of another person. porifery, the official investigating the crime, acts as the intellectual who shows roskolnikov that all intellect must be used for the good of mankind.
