根英文读后感篇1

the necklace: reflections and confessions of human’s vanity

“what would have happened if she hadn’t lost that necklace? who knows? who knows? how strange and changeful is life! how small a thing is needed to make or ruin us!” this is what impressed me most in “the necklace” written by guy de maupassant. i love the story not only due to the incredibly wonderful ending, but also because of the exquisite description of the weakness of humanity.

in his story, guy de maupassant creatively reveals mathilde loisels dreams of a wealthy, splendid lifestyle. mathildes lifetime of misery and despair is solely caused by her own selfish acts. and her vain obsession all ended up ruining her life.

vanity is defined as excessive pride, especially in your appearance. in mathildes case, the "excessive pride" in her looks and charm caused her to feel as if she deserved a higher ranking social class and the wealth. when she wore the necklace to the party, she wanted to give the illusion that she was something that she was not. vanity caused mathilde to fantasize about her life and surroundings-to live in a world of illusion, rather than reality.

summary

my name was jim hawkins. an old seaman called bill came to my father’s inn. he asked me to keep my eyes open for a seaman with one leg. but one day, a man named black dog came to the inn suddenly. and he fighted with bill for something. black dog ran away with his blood running down. and bill lay on the floor when he was going to leave.

then the blind man came and gave bill a black spot. but bill died just then. i told mother that i knew. and then my mother and i decided to ask for help in the neighboring village, but failed. fortunately, several men were willing to ride to dr liversery. and my mother and i went back to the inn to get our lawful money, and i took the oil cloth packet of pa-pe-rs. then we ran away and hid under the bridge. the blind man brought some other pirates in the inn for the oil cloth packet of pa-pe-rs, and failed, of course. but the blind man didn’t believe. so they quarreled when dirk sent signals to let them run away. and the blind man was left along and killed by the running houses.

we rode to dr liversery’s house. i gave the oil cloth packet of pa-pe-rs to him. and we decided to ready to find that money. several days later, a letter came and asked red ruth and i to go to bristol. the squire gave me a note to take to john silver when i arrived here. and i found the black dog was also here and ran away. john deceived me into believing his innocence.

the captain was a sharp man and he was afraid of a mutiny. so we moved the powder and arms to the room near by ours. then we started the voyage. the voyage was very good, except mr. arrow. he drank too much after a day or two at sea. at last, he disappeared entirely with no reason. before arrived the island, i want a apple. but the apple barrel was nearly empty, so i had to climb into it, and had a sleep there. when i was awake, i heard that silver asked dick to join him to create a mutiny. and so did dick. they wanted to kill us on the island. i told all i had known to my friend.

when we arrived in the island, some of them carelessly obey orders. the captain decided to make some of them go to the island for keeping them calm and let the mutiny came late. i quickly went over the ship’s side and into the nearest boat. i arrived first and ran towards the trees. and then i witnessed that silver killed tom and admitted having killed alan. because they didn’t join silver. i was scared. i left there as silent as i could, and met ben gunn who had lived on the island for 3 years. my friends’ boat was turned over by wind. all of our stores sank to the bottom, and only two guns of five could be used. they found the stockade and stayed here after they landed. ben gunn killed one of pirate at night. so silver came to talk about peace, but failed. after an hour, fighting began. our defence was very good, and we had a good place -----in the house. so we wan first. then dr liversery was going to see ben. and i went away secretly with filling both pockets of my coat with food. i took the boat which made by ben gunn to cut the “hispania” loose. after that, i climbed onto the ship, and striked the pirate’s flag , and killed israel hands before he killed me.

i climbed down the rope and left the “hispania” on the bay. i found that my friends were not in the stockade when i walked in. i was survived by silver. because other pirates all wanted to kill me. but silver persuaded them to not do it. i also knew that dr liversery gave the map to silver. so they decided to search the money.

they difficultly found the place where the treasure was. but the money was missing. because gunn had moved it to a hole. the other pirates were very angry, and ready to kill silver and me. but dr liversery ,gunn and gray saved us. one of them was shotted to die, and others ran away.

the end of the adventure was that we removed the treasure to the ship, and left the tree pirates on the island. silver went back with us because dr liversery had promised to him.

comment

after reading this book, i admire the little dramatis personae very much. and it make me feeling more. jim hawkins was a timid and shy boy at first. at the beginning of the voyage, jim was only a waiter in the cabin. but he was able to fight with enemys, and recapture the ship from the enemys at last. although he was always prone to became actuation. his courage and insight that had been represented make me admirable. i have learned many things from him, like brave, resource, accommodating and so on. if we also have the spirit that jim has, many difficult questions must be readily solved.

根英文读后感篇3

the little prince, the pilot, the rose, the fox, the snake, etc.

despite ive not in my childhood yet, i still prefer reading fairy-tale stories. the tales, which accompany with me in my old days, often make me think of some precious experience and sensation which only belong to children. this summer ive review this kind of tale, which was published in 1940. its the world-famous fairy-tale by the french author, antoine de st-exupery, the little prince.

as many other fairy-tales, the outline of the little prince is not very complex. “i”, the narrator of the story, is a pilot whose plane has something wrong and lands in the sahara. in this occasion, the pilot makes the acquaintance of the little prince, a little boy from another planet, the asteroid b612. the little prince has escaped from his tiny planet, because he has some quarrel with a rose, which grows on his planet. in that case he left his own planet and took an exploration at some neighbor asteroids.

on his all-alone journey, the little prince meets different kinds of people, which includes a king, a conceited man, a tippler, a businessman, a lamplighter and a geographer. from these people he gets a conclusion that the grown-ups are very odd. following the instruction of the geographer, he descends in the sahara, on the earth.

traveling on the earth, the little prince, who sees a garden of five-thousand roses, is overcome with astonishment and sadness, as he considers his rose is unique in the universe before. at that time a fox appears. the fox, who tell the little prince about the meaning of the word “tame”, becomes his new friend. at the time to say farewell, the fox makes him know that his rose is unique because she is his rose and tamed by him. from that the little prince begins to treasure friendship and be responsible to his rose.

at the anniversary day of his descent of the earth, rejecting the pilots advice, he goes back to his own planet by bite of a snake. “its too far. i can not carry this body with me. its too heavy.” he said. he tells his friend, the pilot, he must be responsible for his rose, so he has to go back. at the end the author doesnt tell us the ending directly. maybe its more significant for us to imagine, and for more, think over.

one of the important characters is the rose. growing on the planet, she is very beautiful, but her coquetry and vanity suffer the little prince a lot. in spite of they love each other, he soon becomes unhappy. on the time of his departure, he just knows she certainly loves him. the character of the little prince actually represents the children, and their native thoughts and deeds. on the contrary, the inhabitants on the other planets, such as the king, the businessman and the conceited man, they also reflect the defects in the grown-ups world. the real theme of this fairy-tale with a little sadness, i guess, is the consequence of pure love and friendship in our lives, but not others “matters of consequence” of the grown-ups.

根英文读后感篇4

based on mark twains novel, the millionaire pound note takes an interesting satirical look at the hypocrisy stemming from class distinction in the 50s england. england is a country where class and wealth are given extreme significance, especially among the rich. the film shows the hypocrisy that existed among these people, how the rich are quick to change face when in an instant they find out that youre a man of wealth and how within the next moment they revert back to their condescending selves when all wealth is lost. interestingly, the millionaire also briefly looks at how the english perceived americans in that era. rich americans were weled as outsiders and the poor were quickly shunned away. the fact that hes an outsider either makes him more appealing or the plete opposite. the story sticks to the main theme by emphasizing on the hypocrisy of the upper class society but at the same time it also creates a balance that prevents the movie from being a mockery of the british society. the movie drags at some point but the love story appears at the right time and there is plenty of edy to keep one entertained.

a charming gregory peck totally nails the part and the luminous jane griffiths is a treat. reginald beckwith, as pecks sidekick rock is amusing. the ending is a little predictable but the director does an overall good job by rounding it up and presenting his points.

根英文读后感篇5

this winter vacation i read the works of dickens, the following is my feeling.

the story goes that the marquis of evremonde raped the peasant woman, and her brother knew it, and he fought with the marquis and failed. and he was badly hurt. perhaps the marquis did not want to make a big deal of it. just a doctor, and this is another important character, dr. manette. and the poor dr manette was sent to the bastille by the marquis for his knowledge of the matter. eighteen years later, its time to meet again...

i see a lot of different people in the story. honest good horse knight doctor, sweet lucy, elegant and noble, charles loyal lowry, appearance indifference, inner passion, wild and selfless lofty sidney, distorted humanitys hair day, mrs miss generous loyalty prologis, cruel and wicked fremont brothers el...

this charles was a nephew of the marquis of esremonde, but he did not accept the title and left france for england. he became a french teacher by himself in london.

there was also a man named sidney carton, who looked at the ceiling from the beginning of the court, but one of his notes debunked the plaintiffs plot. it was easy for him to give the impression of slovenliness, depression, and greed, but he changed his clothes with charles in an emergency, through a jailer, to charless prison. consequences, charles was sent out of the french, but were guillotined caton, he said a words: before death is what i do now i have done the best, the most good things in life; what i am about to receive is the quietest and most peaceful rest of my life.

after the revolution, the revolutionaries are lost reason, killing innocent people, and in order to save charles former servant, stand and walk, came to france, but the results were revolutionaries to escape the identity to shut up, lucy and her father horse knight doctor hurriedly rushed to france, because of his off in the bastille for eighteen years, be called a hero, his son-in-law and privileged ─ charles provides a good condition. but she was the sister of the brother and sister, and she had always hated the marquis of evremonde. charles was also the nephew of the marquis of evremonde, so she tried her best to make the most of charles. but in the end he died in his own gun.

the novel ended with a "happy reunion," but my heart was filled with bitterness when i read that carton was replacing charles on the execution grounds for lucy.

根英文读后感篇6

in tess of the d’urbervilles, hardy molded a pure, kindhearted image and rather an image brave enough to rebel, to shoulder the responsibility of her action. her unfortuneness was the tragedy of the society, her character and fate. it vividly revealed the persecution towards people after industrial revolution made by the conception of capitalism and traditional moral. following are some of my opinions about the causes to her death.

her character and parentage was part of the cause

in the author’s ideal world, tess was the embodiment of beauty and the incarnation of love .she represents all the merits of the villagers in her hometown: beautiful, pure, kind, simple, charitable and tolerant. to love ,she had no egocentric thoughts and didn’t plan to meet her vain wish by marriage .she standed by he dignity and pursue freedom .hardy made the poor, helpless ,humble country girl as the heroin.despite she committed adultery and murder, hardy still claim she was a “pure girl”. this fully showed the author’s sympathy towards tess. hardy elaborately modeled the image of tess and indignantly describes the depression confronted with tess through her short life.

tess is a young woman who tends to find herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. she is a victim, but she is also, at times, irresponsible. she falls asleep while taking the beehives to market, which ends up killing the family horse, prince she decides to visit the d’urbervilles in trantridge, giving rise to all her future woes, partly out of the guilt and responsibility she feels toward her family. she wants to make good, but in trying to help her family she loses sight of her own safety and her own wants and wishes. she becomes alec’s victim in the forest. she probably should have known not to put herself in such a situation, but she has few other options. here, it seems as though she is destined to rely on others, even when they are unreliable.

tess is also a strong woman throughout the novel. she stands up for herself and refuses to crumble under pressure. she chastises herself for her weakness after her sexual escapade with alec. if we agree with her claim that this indiscretion is a moment of weakness, we probably also feel that such weakness is not unlike that of most human beings. she is hard on herself for letting herself become a victim. at the burial of her child, sorrow , she weeps but collects herself and moves on as a stronger woman. overall, her determined attempts to escape her past primarily reflect her strength.

her parentage to some extent leaded to her final tragedy. born in a poor family, with an ignorant vain, drunkard father who did not care too much about the

published in 1847, wuthering heights was not well received bythe reading public, many of whom condemned it as sordid, vulgar, and unnatural--and author emily bronte went to her grave in 1848believing that her only novel was a failure. it was not until 1850,when wuthering heights received a second printing with anintroduction by emilys sister charlotte, that it attracted a widereadership. and from that point the reputation of the book hasnever looked back. today it is widely recognized as one of thegreat novels of english literature.even so, wuthering heights continues to divide readers. it is not apretty love story; rather, it is swirling tale of largelyunlikeable people caught up in obsessive love that turns to darkmadness. it is cruel, violent, dark and brooding, and many peoplefind it extremely unpleasant. and yet--it possesses a grandeur oflanguage and design, a sense of tremendous pity and great loss thatsets it apart from virtually every other novel written.the novel is told in the form of an extended flashback. after avisit to his strange landlord, a newcomer to the area desires toknow the history of the family--which he receives from nelly deans,a servant who introduces us to the earnshaw family who once residedin the house known as wuthering heights. it was once a cheerfulplace, but old earnshaw adopted a gipsy child who he namedheathcliff. and catherine, daughter of the house, found in him theperfect companion: wild, rude, and as proud and cruel as she. butalthough catherine loves him, even recognizes him as her soulmate, she cannot lower herself to marry so far below her social station.she instead marries another, and in so doing sets in motion anobsession that will destroy them all.wuthering heights is a bit difficult to get into; the openingchapters are so dark in their portrait of the end result of thisobsessive love that they are somewhat off-putting.

but they feedinto the flow of the work in a remarkable way, setting the stagefor one of the most remarkable structures in all of literature, astory that circles upon itself in a series of repetitions as itplays out across two generations. catherine and heathcliff areequally remarkable, both vicious and cruel, and yet never able toshed their impossible love no matter how brutally one may wound theother.as the novel coils further into alcoholism, seduction, and oneof the most elaborately imagined plans of revenge it gathers into aghostly tone: heathcliff, driven to madness by a woman who is notthere but who seems reflected in every part of his world--draggingher corpse from the grave, hearing her calling to him from themoors, escalating his brutality not for the sake of brutality butso that her memory will never fade, so that she may never leave hismind until death itself. yes, this is madness, insanity, and thereis no peace this side of the grave or even beyond.it is a stunning novel, frightening, inexorable, unsettling, filled with unbridled passion that makes one cringe. even if you donot like it, you should read it at least once--and those who dolike it will return to it again and again.
